From 10 to 12 July 2024, ESSCA's EU*Asia Institute organised the second academic workshop of the Jean Monnet 'TRES' Chair. More than 30 researchers from all over the world gathered at the ESSCA campus in Angers and online to present their research on different aspects of Europe and the EU, such as:
Session 1: Europe in (and) the World
Session 2: European Thinkers, Leaders and Influencers
Session 3: History of European integration
Session 4: European Law and Policy
Session 5: New ideas on Europe
Session 6: Celebrating Two Decades: The Impact of the 2004 EU Enlargement
Session 7: European Organisations
Session 8: European Values, Society and Democracy
As in the previous workshop in 2023, papers were reviewed for "The Routledge Resources Online: European Studies" (RROES). This online encyclopaedia, developed by Routledge, aims to provide comprehensive, up-to-date and authoritative resources for academic research in European Studies. It will thus provide a reference platform for knowledge about Europe and promote high-level research in the field of European Studies.
A number of RROES editors were present at the conference, including:
- Prof Thomas Hoerber, Director of the EU*Asia Institute and Jean Monnet Chairholder at ESSCA
- Dr Maxine David, Lecturer in European Studies at Leiden University
- Prof Stéphanie Laulhé Shaelou, University of Central Lancashire, Director of the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence on the Rule of Law and European Values
- Dr Pamela Barnes of the EU*Asia Institute at ESSCA
- Prof. Birol Yesilada, Professor of Political Science and International Studies, Portland State University
- Dr Marios P. Efthymiopoulos, Associate Professor in International Security and Strategy, Neapolis University Pafos, Strategy International Ltd
They chaired the panels in their respective RROES topic areas and sections to provide participants with initial and confidential feedback on their submissions. Discussions following each submission encouraged the exchange of ideas and constructive debate among participants.
The Routledge editorial team presented the resources available to authors, what to expect from their submissions, and the overall mission of RROES in the current publishing context.
In conclusion, the European Studies Workshop was once again a fruitful event that brought together researchers in European Studies. The presentations and discussions contributed to the advancement of knowledge in the field.
The organisers would like to thank the participants and all those who contributed to the success of this event. This workshop provided a platform for collaboration, exchange of ideas and further development of "The Routledge Resources Online: European Studies". We expect that this event will inspire further research and collaborative projects in the field of European Studies, at the latest at the next annual European Studies conference of the Jean Monnet Chair TRES in Strasbourg in 2025.
