As part of the EUonAIR initiative, ESSCA is organising an Urban Innovation Challenge Hackathon, where teams of students from EUonAir partner institutions will compete to develop AI-driven solutions for sustainable and smart urban living.

Cities today face increasing challenges in areas such as mobility, sustainability and public services. The EUonAIR Hackathon is an opportunity to investigate how Artificial Intelligence can help shape the future of urban environments.
During the hackathon, students will work with real-world datasets provided by the cities of Angers and Boulogne, addressing concrete urban challenges identified by the municipalities themselves. A key aspect of the competition will be the feasibility and ease of implementation of the proposed AI-driven solutions, ensuring that ideas can be realistically deployed to enhance urban living.

The event is structured in two main phases:

  • A kick-off session (26 March 2025) - an introduction to the challenge, guiding participants through key urban issues and AI applications.
  • The Final Pitch (4 April 2025) - Teams will present their solutions to a jury of professionals, academics and city representatives.

This hackathon is supported by EUonAIR, Datacraft, ESSCA's AI for Sustainability Institute and the ESSCA Junior Conseil.

By engaging students, professionals and academic experts, it promotes interdisciplinary collaboration and aligns with the broader mission of EUonAIR: integrating AI into education, research and mobility for meaningful societal change.

Stay tuned for insights and highlights from this exciting event.
