About the family business Institute
ESSCA's Institute of Family Businesses is a forum for the managers of family businesses in ESSCA's territories, for ESSCA students and graduates, and for professor-researchers working in the fields of family businesses and related social sciences, particularly in the area of psychology and family sciences.
This intersection of disciplines corresponds both to an emerging field from an academic point of view and to concrete demands from family businesses where management decisions are made both in the economic sphere of the company and in the symbolic sphere of the family. We can therefore also and more specifically address multigenerational family businesses.
The institute is also focused on the needs and expectations of ESSCA students and former graduates who come from family businesses or who wish to work there one day. In this regard, it is important to recall that 83% of French companies are family businesses and that they represent between 45% and 65% of the GNP.
Specificities of ESSCA's Family Business Institute
The institute is structured around:
- a recurring activity: a filmed interview, conducted every two months with an emblematic leader of a family business in the presence or not of researchers, students and professionals.
- an institutional objective of creating a library of cases including both filmed interviews and company monographs, etc.
- work involving researchers in family business and family science.
- conferences on themes related to the Institute open to all interested students. There are many students on the various campuses who represent the future generation that will take over a family business. The students will then be able to act as federators of family businesses in the region and even beyond.
