The EU*Asia Institute of ESSCA, School of Management, is glad to announce its Newcomers’ Conference for 2022. Andrew Thomas, Yixiong Huang and Pieter van Nes are our three new members who will introduce their current research work, related to very diverse topics, that will represent great value and opportunities for the Institute. This year’s topics will have an exciting focus on Asia, its links with Europe and on space policy: our new Research Fellows are in the right place!
The conference will be held in room C231 on the ESSCA Angers campus.
'Legitimacy-seeking for Social Enterprises in China: A Case Study of Microfinance Institutions'
By studying microfinance institutions from the Chinese stakeholders’ perspective, Yixiong Huang will discuss the sources of legitimacy and acquisition strategies of social enterprises in China.
'Aerospace in the International Political Economy: sales to China and the Far East, 1972-80 ; and the British Space Programme(s).'
Andrew Thomas will provide us with a talk including space, commercial strategy and relations between Europe and East-Asian countries. Starting with the South Korean missile and rocket programme, it will include sales of Concord, civilian airliners and Harrier jump-jets, the visit to NASA in late 1979 by Chinese leader Deng Xiaoping, and ends with a brief look at the British Space Programme(s).
Pieter van Nes will present his participation in the pioneering work drafting the first European Strategy for Space to the Institute members. His knowledge of European Space Policy, the European Union and his inside experience with its policies for e.g. industry, research, transport, energy, international relations, will be of great value for new projects and further collaboration.
